Christian Prayer--Theology--Liturgy--Life: A Lecture Series in Liturgical Theology
Tuesdays: November 3, 10, 2009
1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Convent
The Sisters of St. Mary are sponsoring a class in Liturgical Theology with lectures by Associate Dr. Dan Herzog, retired Bishop of the Diocese of Albany, at 1:30 p.m. on selected Tuesdays this fall.  The class is intended to present, not the usual teachings on colors and seasons, but the underlying traditions, history and meaning behind why we do what we do in Anglican worship.  The sisters routinely gather together for study, and this lecture series opens one of their classes to the larger diocese and public. Topics include the Divine Office, the Sacraments, the Year of Grace as Reflected in Feasts and Seasons, Bridging the Centuries--the First through the Twenty-first, Monastic vs. Cathedral Styles in Worship, the Reform, popular piety, Churches of the East and West, the Liturgies of Holy Week and Easter and Lectio DivinaThere will be a break during Advent and Christmas with further classes resuming in January.

Mid-Winter Retreat: “Christ Our Journey Home” based on St. Teresa of Avila’s Interior Castle
February 12-15 (President’s Day Weekend)
From Friday Vespers to Monday lunch
Suggested Donation:  $210.
We speak of Jesus as Lord of our lives.  St. Teresa of Avila wrote of Him as Le Señor (the Lord) enthroned at the center of our souls.  Her Interior Castle – a classic in the Christian mystical tradition – attempts to delineate what happens when our practice of prayer is supernaturally transformed by the Holy Spirit, describing prayer as an interior journey to meet the Lord Christ within.  Join Sister Mary Elizabeth in this three-day silent retreat and discover the marvelous, many-faceted diamond dwelling place with is Christ’s palace within your soul.  Call the convent for more information or to register. (The retreat is limited to ten participants.)
